Empathic and Approachable Counselling Support

At my Southsea-based practice, I offer tailored support for a range of challenges. Every journey is unique, and I am here to walk alongside you.

Individuals

Do you struggle with anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship issues? Has life just become too much and you need a safe space, judgement free to be heard and work through it all?

Maybe you just want someone to help you unpick all of your thoughts, feelings and emotions that can be overwhelming and all consuming at times. I can provide a space where we can unpick all of this together, helping you to understand yourself a bit better and work towards inner peace.

I'm trained and qualified in psychodynamic counselling where we look at how we may have formed relationship templates and built defences that we needed in our early and formative years or helped us survive trauma, but which may not help us going forwards and may be affecting our current relationships in a negative way. I will work with the best method to help you.

How does MM-Counselling compare to other counselling services in Portsmouth?

What if I don’t know what to say in my first session?

That’s completely okay, and more common than you might think. There’s no script to follow. My role is to create a space where you feel comfortable enough to share at your own pace. We start wherever feels right for you — even if that’s just telling me you’re not sure where to start.

Do I need a referral from my GP to see a counsellor?

No, you don’t need a referral. You can contact me directly. Many people self-refer and that’s perfectly fine. If you’d like to talk first before committing, I offer a free introductory call.

Is counselling right for me? My problems might not be ‘big enough’.

There’s no threshold you need to reach before you ‘deserve’ support. If something is affecting your wellbeing, your happiness, or how you relate to others — that matters. Counselling is for anyone who wants to understand themselves better, not just people in crisis.

How long will I need counselling for?

That depends entirely on you and what you’re working through. Some people find a few sessions helpful, others benefit from longer-term support. We’ll talk about this together, review as we go, and you’re always in control of how long we work together.
